Jumping from the gates well, jockey Craig Williams settled the Ladoni gelding in prime position on the heels of the Launceston Cup’s early leaders Ollie’s Gold, who set a reasonable tempo away from the gates and passing the post the first time.

Finding a good rhythm over the back straight, Williams found a position on the rails and allowed the likes of Another Lad Al and Banca Mo to press forward.

Maintaining position on the rails rounding onto the final straight, Genuine Lad cut the corner and charged clear of his rivals; maintaining a strong-enough sprint to see off a fast-finishing Banca Mo; classy veteran Geegees Blackflash boxing on for third.

Williams delivered a typically polished and perfectly-timed ride on Genuine Lad for success in the 2015 Launceston Cup, and undoubtedly sealed the victory when pressing his mount inside his rivals on the final turn.

Trainer Bill Ryan was understandably thrilled with Genuine Lad’s performance in the 2015 Launceston Cup and revealed the 2015 Adelaide Cup may figure as his next point of call.

“Absolutely stoked, it’s glorious,” Ryan said.

“Craig rode him an absolute treat – he had a plan, he worked it out and it came off, just fantastic.

“I talked to Craig before the race and said I want your opinion on where we’re going to go after this when he wins, and he said Adelaide Cup, so let’s go and find out.”

In taking out the 2015 Launceston Cup, Genuine Lad has now secured an impressive record of five wins and a further ten minor places from a total of seventeen competitive appearances on course.

Having undoubtedly found career-best form over his current racing campaign, Genuine Lad finished a close second in the Devonport Cup (1880m) on January 7th; pressing on to second in each of the Summer Cup (2200m) and Group 3 Hobart Cup (2400m) leading into this afternoon’s triumph.

In carrying an race-high 60.5kgs to a brave third, leading stayer Geegees Blackflash continued his impressive run of results in the Launceston Cup and has now won the event once and finished in the minors a further four occasions over a total of five starts.

Punters who backed Genuine Lad to win the 2015 Launceston Cup with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au have been paid out on generous $3.20 odds for success!
