Apprehend Targets Launceston Cup 2012 – Race Preview

January 31st, 2012

The Group 3 Launceston Cup is due to run at Launceston Racecourse on Wednesday February 29, 2012.

The race is worth a total of $225,000 in prize money and is run over a distance of 2,400 metres.

The 2012 Launceston Cup is run under open handicap conditions and is open to horses of all ages.

Tony Vasil’s Apprehend is being targeted towards a start in the 2012 Launceston Cup.

Apprehend has won eight of his 50 race starts and has earned more than $465,000 in prize money.

The Hold That Tiger gelding won the Listed Werribee Cup last Sunday January 29, 2012.

Jockey Craig Newitt was pleased with Apprehend’s performance.

“It was just the right sort of race for him,” Newitt said.

“For once he drew a barrier and I was able to push him forward in the early stages without a lot of pressure.

“At the winning post the first time I knew he was going to be hard to beat and then as I didn’t have a lot of pressure I was able to dictate the tempo.”

Apprehend is also likely to run in the 2012 Hobart Cup earlier in the month on February 12, 2012.
